On 14th October 2024, the U16s participated in the tier 3 Middlesex hockey tournament. Our first match was against Ibstock Place, in which we secured a 3-0 win. The goal scorers were Alice Bubb, Edie Howell-Jones and Phoebe Phillips. The opposition provided us with a good challenge. Still, St. Augustine’s came together and became such a unified force with clever, intricate passing and excellent goalkeeping by Amelia Campbell, which led the team to score 2 goals in the first half and a further goal at the beginning of the second. Ibstock Place had no answer to the magnificence of St. Augustine’s.
The rain started to fall, and St. Augustine’s had a break while the other two teams, Ibstock Place and Francis Holland, matched against each other. This was a one-sided affair, with Ibstock securing the victory.
St. Augustine’s next match was against Francis Holland. Nicely rested, the team came together as a force once again. Francis Holland was warmed up from the previous game, leading to a surprisingly early goal, leaving St. Augustine’s on the back foot with much to do.
But, remember to never underestimate St. Augustine’s when they’re down. The team showed remarkable resilience, uniting and keeping their composure. Through their sheer will and effort, they scored an equaliser, bringing the team back into contention for winning the tournament. The second half started with everything on the line.
St. Augustine’s was there to seize the day and grabbed an early lead in the second half, and then from that point on, didn’t take their foot off the pedal. St. Augustine’s buried the match with a crucial goal to secure a victory in this game and, most importantly, to win the tournament.
Odile Freeman, Bella Charnaud, and Phoebe Phillips scored goals. Overall, it was a brilliant day on the hockey pitch.
Thanks to our amazing coaches, Miss Lammiman and Ms Doran, for their encouragement and dedication to the team.
Next stop, the final. See you there!
