Sports Day 2025: A Day of Broken Records

By Milly Saber and Shriya Patel

On Monday 23rd June, St. Augustine’s Priory hosted its annual Sports Day – one of the highlights of the school calendar – at the Perivale Athletics Track. Throughout the day, there was an invigorating atmosphere, which was lovely to see, and we were also fortunate to have sunshine overhead.

Earning points for their houses, students competed with enthusiasm and pride – but most importantly with excellent teamwork. The energy from the crowd was incredibly uplifting and motivating.

The day included many memorable moments displaying the extreme levels of excellence of athletic performance, including record breakers from a variety of years. Ayaka Takasaki in Year 7 broke the record for Javelin, Chloe Simone in Year 8 broke the record for Javelin, surpassing Avaani Badesha’s earlier mark. An impressive three more records were broken in Year 9 from Bernadette Martin for Discus, Luna Salvucci de Oliviera for Hurdles and Layla Hildebrand for Long Jump . Maria Gomes-Bergamasco, in Year 10, who broke the record for High Jump, was announced as the receiver of The Victrix Ludorum for her outstanding all- round performance and leadership on the track.

Along with the celebration of sporting achievements, The Spirit of the House Awards recognised these individuals as celebrating positivity, encouragement and unwavering support: Alice Bubb for St Gabriel’s, Crystal Abi for St George’s, Betty Lincoln for St Michael’s and Freya Quinn for St Raphael’s.

Mr Stringer recalled how “every student played their part with energy and pride, and the atmosphere was electric. I was especially proud of how hard the girls worked- not just for themselves, but for their houses. It’s days like this that remind us what school spirit is all about”.

With St George’s being announced as the winners of Sports Day 2025, students and staff of that house gathered for a celebratory group photo. Sato, the Head Girl who is in the winning house, expressed her excitement and commented on the day saying, “We did it St George’s! So proud of everyone who gave it your all, let’s keep this winning spirit alive.”

It is therefore safe to say that Sports Day 2025 was a roaring success, and let’s hope our school’s amazing effort in participating in the Sports Day events and the inspiring and uplifting sense of encouragement and teamwork will be carried on into the years to come.
