50 Years on and Glastonbury is still a Stage for Cultural Revolution

By Layla Hildebrand

In 1970, a field in a then unknown farm, called Worthy Farm, set the stage for what has now become one of the best known cultural events in Britain, Glastonbury Festival. At the time, only 1,500 people attended. 50 years later, it has evolved into a 5-day festival with a capacity of 210,000 over 1,500 acres. For many musicians, performing there may become the highlight of their career.

As Beyonce said during her 2011 performance: “You are witnessing a dream! I have always wanted to be a rock star!”

Glastonbury’s most famous headliners

Over the years, the most famous singers have made the journey to the pyramid stage, including Dolly Parton whose performance in 2014 attracted over 180,000 people! Legendary musician David Bowie headlined in 2000 while kings and queens of pop such as Kylie Minogue, Ed Sheeran and Adele also graced the stage.

Glastonbury 2025

Once again the Glastonbury music festival is one of the most anticipated events of the year, hosting cross-generational artists with something for everyone. This is after 2024 where some critics believed that they had a disappointing lack of variety. Will Glastonbury be able to redeem themselves this year?

Headliners Olivia Rodrigo, Charli XCX and Gracie Abrams will appeal to the masses. Rising stars such as Lola Young will appeal to younger audiences keen to follow their icons on TikTok.

For the older crowd Glastonbury is bringing back legends such as Neil Young, who headlines this year. Almost every genre of music will be represented from R&B star Doechii to dance music, rock and indie.
