Cullen has called for a ‘double digit pay rise’ for nurses in England. In March, the government offered nurses a 5% pay rise for 2023 to 2024 and a one-off payment of at least £1,655 to top up the previous year’s salary, depending on the staff grades. About 11 NHS unions accepted this offer, but the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) rejected and suggested further strike action unless the pay rise went up to at least £10,000.
How much do NHS nurses get paid?
The junior nurses are estimated to be paid just over £27,000 a year. The nurses, who have worked for more than four years, are estimated to be paid £33,000.
Surprisingly, the union insists the strike benefits not only the nurses’ rights but also the patients. According to them, the salary rise can stop nurses quitting jobs and attract new nurses so as to keep the NHS going, even though patients have a big trouble with necessary medical needs right now.
