By Lucia McQuillan-Puccetti

On Wednesday 29th January Year 8 students, alongside our music group, set off for an exciting adventure in Paris. After arriving on the Eurostar, they were warmly welcomed by their penpals at Sainte Marie de Neuilly, the sister school of St Augustine’s. The students spent the afternoon getting to know their penpals and immersing themselves in the vibrant French culture.

A Royal Day at Versailles

Thursday was a day filled with history as all students ventured to the magnificent Palace of Versailles, the former royal residence commissioned by King Louis XIV. They had the chance to explore the stunning French Baroque building and architecture, including the famous Hall of Mirrors, which features an impressive 357 mirrors. The students also enjoyed strolling through the expansive and beautifully landscaped gardens of the palace.

In the evening, the school’s musicians, including the Jazz Band and Guitar Ensemble, joined forces with the Sainte Marie choir for a concert at Sainte Marie de Neuilly. The concert featured a wide range of musical genres, including jazz, pop and classical, showcasing the diverse talents of the students.

A Taste of Parisian Life

On Friday, Year 8 students presented a talk about St.Augustine’s School at Sainte Marie de Neuilly. This was followed by a fun tour of the bustling Parisian markets and a scenic boat trip along the Seine River aboard the Bateau Mouche.

A Day with Penpals and Iconic Landmarks

Saturday offered the students a full day with their penpals, where they experienced firsthand the everyday Parisian lifestyle. Meanwhile, the musicians had the extraordinary opportunity to visit the iconic Louvre Pyramid and enjoy panoramic views of the city from the Eiffel Tower – an unforgettable highlight of the trip!

This trip to Paris was truly an incredible experience – filled with new friendships, cultural immersion and plenty of opportunities to practice French! The memories made during this adventure will surely last a lifetime.
