Tyla Enters Billboard In The Hot 100 With Her Debut Song

By Shibani Clington Fernando

South Africa’s new music sensation, Tyla, has created a momentous debut with her song, Water.

The twenty-one-year-old woman is the youngest ever to be included in the billboard. Her solo song is the first South African musician to be included in the billboard since the sensational music in the song Grazing in the Grass Hugh Masekela – which was made 55 years ago.

Astonishingly, Tyla has secured an impressive ranking of 67 in the Hot 100 debut despite it being her first ever career entry.

Tyla’s music career started when Tyla began to post clips of her dancing to the song on TikTok, a social media site where short videos are shared. This song has a fusion of unique genres: Afrobeats, Pop, R&B, and Amapiano, which is a South African version of electronic dance music.

It has become popular on TikTok due to a newly created dance challenge to the song. This track has been posted on videos over 500,000 times on TikTok alone.
