On Wednesday 25th September, I had the idea to give interviews to all the new teachers at St. Augustine’s Priory and publish them on the school newspaper – a brilliant way for students to get to know a little bit about their new teachers. Ms. Hutchinson kindly agreed to give an interview, and it’s safe to say she is one interesting person to be around!
- 1. Introduce yourself to me briefly.
“Hello! My name is Miss Hutchinson I am a psychology teacher here at St. Augustine’s Priory and I’m also an ECT”.
- 2. What’s your earliest memory?
“My earliest memory is when I was in nursery school. I used to love going to different groups making sure they were getting all the tasks done”.
- 3. What song gets you on the dance floor?
“A song that gets me on the dance floor is “Low” by Flo Rida”.
- 4. What makes you laugh most?
“What makes me laugh the most is when I’m with other people because I have quite a contagious laugh. So they can’t help but laugh, which then makes me laugh, which then makes them laugh, which makes me laugh, and we have a laughing cycle that never ends”.
- 5. What’s your most treasured possession?
“Something that I’ve always kept with me is birthday cards and thank you cards and Christmas cards. I have a box of them because they mean a lot to me”.
- 6. What keeps you up at night?
“Something that keeps me up at night is binge watching a TV series and needing to know what happens in the next episode. So, for example, Bridgerton and Heartstopper”.
- 7. If you weren’t a teacher, what would you do for a job?
“I would still be working with young people – this is something I’ve done my entire life. I can’t imagine not working with young people, so I’d maybe be a teaching assistant, or a support assistant, or a youth worker but definitely not a social worker”.
- 8. What is the best part about being a teacher?
“This right now [being interviewed]. Being able to engage with my students outside of lessons, seeing the progress they make as individuals and just having this conversation with you, where you’re interviewing me, is the best”.
- 9. Describe yourself in 3 words.
“Funny, energetic and approachable”.
- 10. Finally – and I’m pretty sure this is something we’d all like to know – who was your teenage crush?
“It was Stephen from Boyzone. Which means nothing to any of you [students]”.
