Students can care for animals and plants in a hands-on way, allowing them to connect with nature in a calm and supportive environment.

Recently, the farm has been full of excitement with the arrival of several baby animals. The first spring babies to arrive were adorable twin Pygmy goats, Pixie and Pom-pom, who were named by the pupils who work on the farm. Not long after, a second set of Pygmy goats were born: Peach and Pandora.

For many pupils, the farm is much more than just a place with animals. Students say they enjoy the warm and welcoming environment Ms Fraser creates, filled with laughter and positivity. The atmosphere makes it a comfortable and enjoyable place where everyone can relax and have a good time.

Spending time at the farm also gives pupils a chance to switch off from the pressures of everyday school life. Being around the animals, feeding them and caring for them can be both calming and rewarding. One pupil said, “It feels like you’re not really in school,” showing how the farm provides a peaceful escape from the usual school environment.

The farm also offers students the opportunity to work towards a farm qualification. To achieve this, pupils complete a range of tasks such as examinations, creating posters and PowerPoints, and learning how to examine and care for the animals. Although it requires dedication and hard work, students say it is highly fulfilling. Not only does it strengthen their CVs, but it also helps them build practical skills and gain valuable knowledge for the future.

The school farm is a wonderful place for students to connect with animals, develop new skills, and take a break from the busy school day. With its welcoming atmosphere and lovely new additions, the school farm continues to be a much-loved part of school life.

By Selina Naik Our school farm is an exciting part of school life, constantly changing with the arrival of new animals.
